Fabric Care

Every Sarvati piece is crafted with care, often handwoven with delicate zari, embroidery and prints. A little gentle attention keeps it beautiful for years.

Silk (Banarasi, Satin Silk, Tussar, Soft Silk)

Dry-clean only is safest. Avoid machine or hand washing, and never use regular soap or detergent. Keep silk out of strong direct sunlight to prevent fading, and refold it occasionally so permanent crease lines don't form. Store in a cool, dry place wrapped in soft muslin, and iron gently with steam on low. If you must spot-clean, use cold water and a mild detergent, and never twist or wring.

Cotton & Linen

Hardy and easy to maintain. Machine-wash in cool or warm water with a mild detergent, and dry in the shade to protect the colour. Fold rather than hang to keep the shape. A normal or steam iron works fine, and regular dry-cleaning is also suitable.

Georgette & Satin

Delicate, dry-clean preferred. If you must wash, do a very gentle cold hand-wash and never twist or wring. Don't hang for long periods; refold from time to time. Iron on low heat, moving quickly without resting the iron in one spot.

Tissue

Very delicate, with fine metallic threads. Avoid hand and machine washing. If lightly hand-washed, roll in a clean towel to remove water, then lay flat to dry in shade. Store wrapped in muslin, refold periodically, and keep in a cool, dry place away from humidity.

Organza

Crisp and delicate. Avoid washing and harsh soaps. If lightly hand-washed, roll in a towel and lay flat to dry in shade. Store in a breathable fabric bag to prevent dust and snags, and refold occasionally.

Embroidered, Zari, Sequin & Mirror work

Dry-clean only. Store inside out, away from hooks or rough surfaces that can snag the threads. Iron on the reverse with a thin cloth over the work, never directly over the embellishment.

Gentle stain first-aid (suggestions only)

  • Perspiration or deodorant marks: dab gently with a cotton ball and a mild detergent solution, then rinse with cold water.
  • Oily or food marks: sprinkle talcum powder to absorb the oil, let it sit, brush off, then have it professionally cleaned.
  • Always test on a hidden spot first. Note: these are suggestions only; home cleaning is at your own risk and we can't guarantee colour, fabric or zari.
